Auto safety regulators are examining more than 360,000 Ford crossover SUVs due to reported brake system failures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received 36 complaints regarding 2015-2017 Ford Edge models that experienced brake failures, prompting the investigation into approximately 368,000 vehicles. This issue is linked to a rear brake hose failure that could impair the vehicle's ability to stop suddenly.
While no official recall has been issued yet, the investigation aims to assess the severity of the problem and its potential safety implications. Ford Motor Company has confirmed its cooperation with the NHTSA during this inquiry.
This isn’t the first time Ford has faced brake issues; in 2020, around 488,000 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles were recalled for similar brake hose failures, as reported by Reuters.
Additional Recalls: Ram and Tesla
The NHTSA's announcement comes alongside recalls affecting nearly 130,000 Ram 1500 vehicles due to a turn signal malfunction. Chrysler's parent company, Stellantis, is recalling 129,313 2023-2024 Ram 1500 models because the "turn signal self-canceling feature" may not work correctly. This malfunction increases the risk of accidents, as other drivers may not be alerted to a vehicle’s intended direction.
In another recall, 27,185 Tesla Cybertruck vehicles are being recalled due to issues with the rearview camera, which may fail to display properly. According to Tesla, the rearview image may be delayed after shifting into reverse, posing a crash risk if drivers cannot see behind their vehicle.
